It was recommended to the School Board that Armstrong High School, John B. Cary Elementary School, Overby-Sheppard Elementary School, Swansboro Elementary School, and Southampton Elementary School close in an effort to shrink the school system’s $18 million budget gap. So I spoke to Richmond City School Board member Kim Gray to get the full scoop.
The closing of these schools would save an estimated $3 million.
Students who attend Armstrong High School would be divided among Thomas Jefferson High School, John Marshall High School, and George Wythe High School, Richmond School Board member Kim Gray tweeted in response to questions about the proposal.
The board just received the proposed school closures to close our budget gap. Swansboro, Cary, Southampton & Armstrong are recommended.
