48-year-old Willie Noble shot and killed 15-year-old Adrian Broadway after Broadway and her friends decided to prank Noble by putting eggs, leaves and mayonnaise on his car. The prank is reported to have been in retaliation to a prank Noble’s son pulled on Broadway (his neighbor) three months prior. Not thinking any of the girls’ vandalism was a laughing matter, Noble came outside with a shotgun and while Broadway and her six friends attempted to speed off, Noble shot at the car, striking 15-year-old Broadway in the head. Noble was arrested and has been charged with one count of first degree murder, one count of a terroristic act and five counts of aggravated assault for firing at the car carrying the teens.

This means that he shot at Broadway and her friends with an attempt to kill. First degree murder usually requires premeditation. However, according to reports, it also includes felony murder–an unplanned murder that occurs during the commission of a felony (if someone is burglarizing your home and you shoot and kill them).

In the case of Broadway and Noble, she and her friends were pulling a prank, that can be looked at as a crime–vandalism. However, Noble’s action to shoot at the fleeing teens is what makes him a murderer. Sound familiar? Recently, 47-year-old Michael Dunn was charged with three counts of attempted second-degree murder and one count of shooting a deadly missile into a vehicle. Dunn has not been charged with first degree murder. Dunn received second degree murder charge, which means he killed with the intent to do harm, not kill. Does firing 10 shots into an SUV filled with teenagers sound like someone who was trying to do harm or someone who was shooting to kill? Sounds like both to me, with an emphasis on the kill.

It took days for Noble to be arrested and charged with Broadway’s murder. After firing those 10 deadly shots, Dunn went back to the bed and breakfast he was staying at with his fiance, ordered a pizza, watched a movie, had a drink and laid his head down to rest, and that was back in 2012. He was just charged last week. You do the math.
