It’s a sad day in football. One of the best players of all time Deacon Jones has died at the age of 74.
Jones played for the Los Angeles Rams from 1961 until 1971 as a member of “The Fearsome Foursome “alongside Merlin Olsen, Lamar Lundy, and Rosey Grier. Deacon Jones helped change the way defensive ends played the game of football. He was known for his “head slapping” and responsible for the ubiquitous football term “sack” due to the way he dropped quarterbacks. Due to his trailblazing ways on the gridiron, Jones was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1980.
Deacon Jones died in his home in southern California of natural causes. Rest in peace Deacon Jones.
