Charles Milles Mansion was born on November 12, 1934 in Cincinatti, Ohio. Manson spent much of his life in penal institutions. He was dubbed “a career criminal.”

Manson was the leader of the notorious Manson Family, a group that arose in the California in the late 1960’s. Manson believed in “Helter Skelter” a song recorded by the Beatles. He believed that “Helter Skelter” was an impending apocalyptic race war, which he described in his own version of the lyrics to the Beatles’ song. He believed his murders would help to jumpstart that war.

Charles Manson was found guilty of conspiracy to commit murder in the deaths of pregnant actress Sharon Tate, Roman Polanski and others. He was convicted of the murders through the joint-responsibility rule, which makes each member of a conspiracy guilty of crimes his fellow conspirators commit in furtherance of the conspiracy’s object.

Manson was sentenced to death but the decision was converted to life in prison in 1972. California eliminated the death penalty but it was later reinstated. However, the death penalty reinstatement didn’t affect Charles Manson.

Charles Mansion is up for parole today. Manson has been in prison for just over 40 years. His regularly scheduled parole hearing today will be his 12th.
