Erica Banks Arrested at Atlanta Airport on Stolen Gun Charge
Erica Scharmane Breaux — better known as rapper Erica Banks and a cast member on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta — was arrested Wednesday at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta.
According to WSB-TV, police say Banks was traveling from Atlanta to Houston on a Delta flight when a security screening uncovered a weapon inside her small Louis Vuitton purse. Authorities ran the serial number and discovered it had been reported stolen out of Greenville, South Carolina.
The 25-year-old rapper, best known for her 2021 viral hit Buss It, was booked into the Clayton County Jail at 9:50 p.m. and released just over an hour later at 11:12 p.m.
Her attorney, The Fly Lawyer (formerly Jackie Patterson), released a statement insisting she had no idea the gun was stolen. “It is our contention that when she was caught with this weapon, she had no idea it was stolen. She is not guilty of any offense,” he said, adding that he plans to have the charges dismissed so it “never becomes a part of her criminal history.”
Banks currently faces a theft by receiving stolen property charge.
The rapper has not yet commented publicly on the arrest, but her legal team is confident the case will be resolved in her favor.
