On Monday the film broke an almost 20-year record to become the highest-grossing debut project for a writer-director with an original screenplay. Fittingly, Get Out beat out the ’90s horror classic The Blair Witch Project.

The record was broken when Peele’s film, which was made for less than $5 million, took in over $150 million at the box office, surpassing the $140 million made by Blair Witch.

With his directing career already off to an epic start, rumors are swirling that Peele’s next project will be a live-action version of the anime classic Akira, which would quickly cement him as an A-list director. Peele is now a proven asset in television and film, finding both critical and commercial success.
