When Nate Parker debuted his film, Birth Of A Nation, which he starred in, directed and produced, it got rave reviews. It pulled in a historic distribution deal with Fox Searchlight, which, at $17.5 Million dollars, is the highest in Sundance Film Festival history. The film was on track to really clean up at the box office- but now, something from Nate’s past is threatening its success.

While Nate was a student at Penn State, he & the co-creator of the film were charged with raping a young woman, while she was drunk and unconscious. Nate was acquitted, and his co-writer and then-roommate Jean Celestin served time before his conviction was overturned.
