The Fairfax County Police Department is investigating a Virginia police officer who was caught on tape firing a Taser at a man who appeared to be compliant.

The short clip, which emerged last week, shows the man turning around to place his hands on the police vehicle. According to WUSA9, the man was wanted in connection with theft after he allegedly stole a bank teller’s glasses.

As the man turns around, seemingly complying with commands, the officer — who has not been named — stuns him with the Taser. The man falls to the ground as bystanders question the officer’s use of force.

The officer involved in the incident is now the center of an investigation launched by the department.

From the Fairfax County Police Department News:

The Fairfax County Chief of Police, Colonel Edwin C. Roessler Jr., has directed the Department’s Internal Affairs Bureau to conduct an administrative inquiry into the facts and circumstances which led to the deployment of an electronic control weapon (ECW) in the Rose Hill area of the Franconia district on Thursday September 24, 2015.

Police are asking witnesses to call the Fairfax County Police Department’s Internal Affairs Bureau at 703-246-2793 if they have additional information.
