Baltimore is still taking over the conversation a week after the disastrous riots. Jazmine Sullivan also threw her voice into the mix. After returning with her first album in five years a few months ago, Sullivan comes back with a cover of Nina Simone’s 1978 song “Baltimore.”

The rendition comes packaged with scenes from the Baltimore Uprising and 1968’s Baltimore riots.The point is quite clear: In America, some things just don’t change even after decades. However, Sullivan ought to get credit for her performance, which brings a poignancy to the accompanying imagery.
