Skip Bayless is all about the hot take and ruffling feathers, but sometimes it’s apparent that his heart does the thinking and not his brain.
The ESPN talking head went on a little rant on Saturday night after the Floyd Mayweather victory over Manny Pacquiao. Before the snoozer of a fight, Bayless kept asking people not to be biased and be fair, yet he was guilty of exactly that. While Mayweather is not exactly the most likable guy in the universe— in fact he kind of sucks as a human— but he is one hell of a boxer. Money has made a career of being a defensive genius and not allowing the other guys to get a good shot at him.
Skip said that while Mayweather is the “best defensive fighter ever,” he “got away with a whole lot of fancy running.”
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the best defensive fighter ever. But he just got away with a whole lot of fancy run-run-running.
Money outlanded Pacquiao in every punching stat (total punches, jabs and power punches) by a healthy margin. So while Skip believed that Pacquiao won the fight, the truth is that Pacman fell short against the champ. Money fought exactly how he had planned it and it worked to perfection. 48-0 is no coincidence.
