Happy Birthday to the “Preacher Man” Robert Dwayne “Bobby” Womack born on this date March 4, 1944 in Cleveland, Ohio. Womack started his career in the 1960′s singing with his family the Valentinos and was background guitarist for entertainer Sam Cooke. Womack is known for writing hits as “If You Think You Lonely Now”, “Harry Hippie”, “Woman’s Gotta to Have It”, New Birth’s “I Can Understand It” and the Rollingstones first UK hit “It’s All Over Now”. His music style has tapped into R & B, Soul, Country, Rock and Roll, Gospel and Doo Wop. He was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 2009.

At the age 21, Womack married Barbara Cooke, Sam Cooke’s widow. He was ostracised from the music community for quite some time. Learn more about the man and his music at Bobby Womack.
