Since 2008, the Petersburg Bureau of police has provided a free, safe, educational and recreational day camp to over 200 children in the City of Petersburg. When kids are bored they tend to get in trouble. The Petersburg police crime statistics prove this fact. In January 2012 there were 6 juveniles arrested, compared to 14 arrested in July 2011.
This year the Petersburg Police Department would like to send 50 children to camp. Funding is limited due to State and Federal budget cuts. The community must step up to keep our kids in a safe and structured environment this summer.
You are invited to support the Petersburg Police Department’s “Cover the Cruiser for Camp” fundraiser this Saturday, April 21, 2012 at SouthPark Mall in Colonial Heights, Virginia. Patrons to the mall at various entrances will be asked to make donations to the camp by taping a pledge card on police cruisers in an attempt to cover all 4 cruisers.
