KENDRICK WARREN “VA All-Star Basketball Legend”

It’s our “VA All-Stars Winning Weekend here @iPower921… it’s only right that we rep’ for “the two up, two down”!  So stand up for this ”  We’re paying tribute by keeping it all VA everything!  I wanted to show love to “VA All-Star Basketball Legend”  Kendrick Warren.  As a teen I enjoyed watching him at VCU, also at those summer Pro-AM games.

Kendrick Warren (1990-94) was & still is the  most prolific scorer in Virginia Commonwealth University Men’s Basketball history,

Warren, a local Richmond product,   was a McDonald’s All-American at Thomas Jefferson High School, as well as an All-Colonial District, All-Metro, All-Central Region, and All-Group AAA selection.  He averaged a double-double of 26 points and 12 rebounds as a senior for the Vikings, while leading his prep squad to a regional title and a berth in the state tournament.   After his interscholastic playing days were over, the 6-8 forward decided to remain close to home and attend VCU.

Warren, as a rookie, he was named the Sun Belt Conference’s Freshman of the Year and was a first-team all-conference selection.  To this day, his 488 points scored that year remains the most by any freshman in the program’s history.  Moreover, he led the Rams in 13 statistical categories, while registering 10 double-doubles.  Warren also recorded 27 of 31 double-figure scoring outings and netted 20-plus points on nine different occasions.  And that was just as a freshman.

Most notably, Warren surpassed the 1,000-career point milestone as a sophomore and went on to become the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,858 points.  To this day, he is listed among the institution’s all-time career leaders in 11 statistical categories and single-season leaders in five statistical categories.

Following his four-year tenure with the Rams, Warren’s natural talent and extraordinary abilities opened a plethora of doors for him in the professional ranks.  He was invited to NBA camps and recruited by international scouts.  Warren played in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) in the United States for several years, before heading overseas to compete in Sweden, England, France, Brazil, and Finland.  Warren’s superior skills afforded him the rare opportunity to travel and experience the world.

Kendrick Warren’s jersey (#23) is retired, hanging with pride inside the Alltel Pavilion at the Stuart C. Siegel Center.
