(TimesDispatch.com) An argument inside a downtown nightclub led to the fatal shooting early Sunday of a Henrico County man, Richmond police said.

Michael K. Brown Jr., 20, of Glen Allen, was found shot a block away from Aurora, where authorities believe an argument took place and spilled outside. This is the second gunfire incident in a year that resulted from an argument inside the establishment at East Grace and North Fourth streets.

The victim was found on the sidewalk at North Fourth and East Main streets suffering from an apparent gunshot wound at about 12:51 a.m., police said.

Brown was transported to VCU Medical Center where he died of his injuries, Richmond Lt. Stephen McQuail said.

On Sunday, police continued to investigate the incident.

Police described a suspect as a 19- to 25-year-old black male with a light complexion who is approximately 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 1 inch tall, has a slim to medium build, and has distinctive large spaces between his teeth. Police said that witnesses also described him as having wavy “good” hair kept in a short, close-cut style.

The man was at Aurora on Saturday night and into the early morning hours of Sunday with other individuals, police said. He was seen wearing a white T-shirt with the word “LEVI” on the front, dark pants and a black skull cap. Later in the night, he was seen wearing a black hooded jacket, police said.

Authorities believe the suspect and the victim got into an argument inside the club. No arrests had been made Sunday afternoon and authorities said they hoped for the public’s assistance in locating the suspect.

In June, a scuffle between two groups of men inside Aurora — which opened in late 2008 — led to a drive-by shooting that wounded two men.

Late-night shootings in Shockoe Bottom and violence on Broad Street last year also led City Council to adopt an ordinance aimed at allowing the city to crack down on problem nightclubs.

Sunday’s homicide was the eighth in Richmond this year, police said. Police on Sunday also continued to investigate an early Saturday shooting in Shockoe Valley in which one man was killed and another was seriously wounded.

Police ask anyone with information about the shootings to call the Richmond police tip line at (804) 514-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000. Citizens can also text Crime Stoppers at 274637 first using the word “ITip” followed by the tip. Both Crime Stoppers methods are anonymous.
