Justin Bieber isn’t black, and he doesn’t really make hip hop music, but BET still decided to nominate him for the Best New Artist award.
Bieber, a white teen pop sensation, is about as far from a typical BET award nominee as it gets. He was recently signed by Usher, though, so maybe that’s enough to earn a BET award.
Residents of South Central Los Angeles were also largely puzzled by the nomination, as the clip below from “The Jimmy Kimmel Show” makes clear.
