Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced today that the social networking giant has changed its privacy tools to make them easier to understand and use for its 400 million members.

Zuckerberg said the changes constituted “a pretty big overhaul” of the previous privacy settings and said that the company had been working hard on the changes for three weeks.

Critics say that the new settings still aren’t what they should be. Users still have to select which settings they would like to use, while some people think the site should make the most private settings the defaults for all users.

Some of the changes include the addition of one simple control that allows users to change the settings for all of their content, a box that allows users to prevent sharing any of their content with outside sites, and less access to data from certain applications that run on the site.

The new “Privacy Settings” page will reflect all of the changes. Zuckerberg has always expressed his feelings that users should be more open about their information, which may be one reason that Facebook did not make the highest level of privacy a default setting.
