Last year, the court dismissed Drake’s defamation-of-character lawsuit against Universal Music Group over the distribution of Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss, “Not Like Us” [click here if you missed that].

Now, according to a new court filing, Drake has formally appealed the ruling, seeking to revive his claims and send the case back for further proceedings. The appeal argues the lower court erred in its decision; specifics of the argument will be detailed in upcoming briefs once the appellate schedule is set.

UMG has not commented on the appeal, and it’s unclear whether Kendrick or his team will respond publicly, as the suit centers on UMG’s role in distribution rather than Kendrick personally.

Next up: the briefing schedule. If the appellate court bites, Drake’s case could get a second look.
