Trey Songz, claims new lawsuit would ruin his life, but why wasn’t he in court? The singer is attempting to overturn an $11 million default judgment in a battery lawsuit filed by Tyrelle Dunn, a Las Vegas police officer, following a harrowing incident in November 2021.
The lawsuit alleges that Dunn’s wife was “escorted” to Songz’s hotel room at The Cosmopolitan, where she was “assaulted, attempted to leave, and had her phone confiscated.” Dunn claimed he heard his wife’s cries for help and was physically attacked by Songz when he tried to intervene, leading to injuries that kept him off duty for a month.
Shockingly, Songz failed to respond to the lawsuit, resulting in a default judgment of $11,277,961.37 issued on October 10, 2024. However, in a dramatic twist, Songz’s legal team is now arguing that the judgment should be vacated, asserting that the lawsuit was never properly served.
This isn’t the first time Songz has found himself in legal hot water. Over the years, the singer has faced multiple lawsuits, including:
•2016 Detroit Concert Incident: Songz was arrested for assaulting a police officer and a photographer during a concert, after reportedly becoming enraged over his microphone being cut off. He was charged with felony assault on a police officer and misdemeanor aggravated assault.
•2018 Domestic Violence Case: A woman accused Songz of assaulting her at a party during NBA All-Star Weekend. Although he denied the allegations, the case added to his growing list of legal issues.
•2021 Alleged Sexual Assault: Songz was accused of sexually assaulting a woman at a party in 2018. The woman claimed that he groped her without consent.
•COVID-19 Protocol Violation: In January 2021, Songz was arrested at an NFL playoff game for allegedly refusing to wear a mask and causing a disturbance. This incident highlighted his contentious relationship with law enforcement.
Despite these numerous legal entanglements, Songz has managed to maintain a degree of celebrity status, though his reputation has been repeatedly tarnished. His absence in court during the recent battery lawsuit has left many questioning why he failed to appear. Whether due to negligence, a legal strategy, or a misunderstanding, his decision has now culminated in a substantial financial penalty.
As Trey Songz battles to have the $11 million judgment dismissed, the public is left to wonder if this is just another chapter in the saga of a star seemingly unable to stay out of legal trouble. With his history of lawsuits and controversies, the stakes are higher than ever, and the outcome could significantly impact both his career and financial future.
