John Legend calls out the NRA after New York Police Commissioner, Bernard Kerik went on NRA TV and said that, “I think that the criminals out there — the bad guys who want to do bad things — are emboldened by people like John Legend and others who spew this nonsense rhetoric that is completely false and [lie] to generate divisiveness in communities.”  Legend tweeted in response to Kerik’s comments, posing the question on what makes the police’s job harder, having a lot of guns in America or Legend being mad about “cops getting away with murder?” Legend continued to tweet saying that the NRA is a “danger to the nation and the police.” NRA TV Host Grant Stinchfield said that Legend had “proven his ignorance by what he writes on Twitter.” Kerik then claimed that in 2017 out of 936 people shot by police, 457 were white and 223 were black”.
