Future got the rap world’s attention this week when he announced his new album would be dropping Friday. Thursday, the ATL rapper sat down with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 radio to talk about his passion for music and why he wiped his Instagram clean a few weeks ago. Lowe asked him how it felt to “disconnect.”

“It was probably the best thing I ever done,” Future said. “‘Cause […] I don’t have to respond to certain things that’s going on, even in my life.”

Future said he wanted to stopĀ giving so much attention to all the drama going on around him. Most of all he wanted to focus on what mattered.

“I wanted to give attention to my music, my kids, my family,” he said. “Social media can take up a lot of your life. I wanted to be able to give my fans all of me.”

Future said he has worked at taking all of his energy, positive and negative, and channel it into his music. He told Lowe the album is called Future Hendrix.

He also talked about recording a lot in recent months, working with hometown producers, his relationship with DJ Esco, and shooting a video for “Super Trapper.”
