An Arkansas educator turned in his resignation after the deplorable comments he made about the Obamas on social media were brought to his employers attention, according to USA Today.

Trent Bennett, a teacher at Malvern High School in Little Rock, took to KTHV-TV’s Facebook page on Christmas Eve to unleash a series of racist remarks about President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.

In the post, Bennett referred to Michelle Obama as  “Michelle Obummer… America’s First Chimp.” He continued saying he will be overjoyed to see “that nasty chimp and her spider monkey hubby gone for good.”

The former teacher also drummed up birther sentiment by claiming that the President was born in Kenya, although it has been proven on numerous occasions he was born in Hawaii.

Malvern High School denounced the comments in a Facebook post, calling Bennett’s rhetoric, “inappropriate,” “insensitive” and “racially charged.”

Bennett offered an apology and acknowledged his statements were “disrespectful and offensive.”

On Thursday during a special school board meeting, board members voted 6-0 to accept Bennett’s resignation, which was made effective immediately, USA Today reports.

Bennett also told KTHV-TV that he deleted all of his social media accounts as the second step in his apology tour.
