I don’t wanna see no #Prayformycity posts. There comes a point in time where  we have to realize when a situation is getting outta control. Every single homicide that happened has a different story. But there is one truth to all of this. We prayin on facebook. Holding vigils, and meetings and guess what. We’re on pace to have the deadliest year in over a decade. There has to be a solution. But remember this as we continue to bury our own brothers. #BLACKLIVESMATTER

Richmond Times Dispatch – With 31 homicides in the first six months of 2016, Richmond is on track for its deadliest year in nearly a decade, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch’s homicide database. If the pace continues in the second half of the year — there have been five homicides in July, including one Saturday — 62 homicides would be the highest total in the city since 2006.

But Police Chief Alfred Durham said he’s optimistic that the city won’t hit that mark.

“Coming out of the gate with the 18 homicides, that turns on the alarm,” Durham said of the police department’s official count from the first three months of the year.“But it’s slowed down as the year has gone on. … I’m optimistic that we will trend down from where we were last year.”In 2015, the city had 46 homicides. The 10-year high of 81 occurred in 2006, a year that began with nine homicides in the first week, including seven killings by Ricky Gray and Ray Dandridge.
