Education is a fundamental right for all and not a select few. As a concerned parent about classroom instruction it is only fitting to invite the Virginia Secretary of Education Anne Holton to join me on Community Conversations. Secretary Holton was educated in the Richmond Public School System and wants the best educational instruction for our students. It’s time for us as parents, educators, and community to assist in academic achievement for Virginia’s students.

I, personally, would like to see more classroom instruction on creative writing, debates, Art, Music education, home economics, just to name a few. Also, extended instruction on English, Math and Science to be taught as a life skill and not just to Standards of Learning (SOL) testing.

Virginia rate card on education is on the rise but teaching our children common sense instruction is not the best.

The number of Virginia schools earning accreditation is on the rise. Governor Terry McAuliffe announced last Tuesday that nearly 80-percent of Virginia’s public schools are rated as Fully Accredited for the 2015-2016 school year. This is the first increase since 2010 and a ten-percent hike from 2014.

View the full rate card from Virginia school divisions provided by the Virginia Department of Education.
