Jamaica-born novelist Marlon James has won the famed Man Booker Prize for Fiction for his book, A Brief History of Seven Killings. The fictional novel chronicles the attempted murder of legendary reggae artist Bob Marley in 1976. “It is a crime novel that moves beyond the world of crime and takes us deep into a recent history we know far too little about. It moves at a terrific pace and will come to be seen as a classic of our times,” said Michael Woods, chairman of the Man Booker Prize committee. James made history as the first Jamaican author to win the prize. His other pieces of work include John Crow’s Devil, which was published in 2005, and The Book of Night Women, which was released in 2009. Read more.

Suge Knight and Katt Williams to Stand Trial for Robbery

Hip-hop mogul Marion ‘Suge’ Knight and comedian Katt Williams will stand trial for a felony robbery that took place last year. A Los Angeles judge decided that the two must stand trial after prosecutors presented video footage of Knight and Williams allegedly robbing a woman in Beverly Hills and taking off with her camera. “I just remember looking in his eyes and realizing it was getting very dangerous,” said Leslie Redden, the photographer. “My head was going back and forth. My head hit a couple things. Katt Williams pulled my camera off my right shoulder.” Williams is claiming that a felony robbery charge is uncalled-for, because he is willingly going along with the investigation and believed that her camera was going to be returned. Knight’s representatives say he never physically touched Redden and never had the camera in his possession. The two are slated to return to court on October 27. Knight remains in custody on a pending murder charge in an unrelated case. Read more.
