Ava DuVernay is widening her distribution company, AFFRM, and relaunching under a whole new name, Array. Her new and improved company will include films made by and about women and other minorities, because DuVernay understands that those are underserved markets, according to Variety.

The Selma director already has two new films in the works for her newly renamed compana. Ayanda and the Mechanic by South African director, Sara Blecher, and Out of My Hand by Takeshi Fukunaga will both premiere this fall.

DuVernay has also partnered with Netflix for Mississippi Damned, a 2009 movie that originally premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival.

From Variety:

“I’ve always felt as if there were so many films that get made but not seen,” she told Variety. “The real focus of our company has always been distribution. What we’re doing now is opening our arms a little wider and enlarging our mission.”

“It’s a definite evolution of what we were doing at AFFRM,” she said. “When I was out promoting ‘Selma,’ I became aware of so many other films that ought to be getting distribution. And this is a problem I can do something about because of my experience.”
