1) Rikers Island Inmates Claiming Rape & Assault In New Lawsuit

Can somebody tell us what in the world is going on at Rikers Island? In its latest set of dysfunction, the notorious prison is now in the middle of a lawsuit from female inmates claiming that they were raped and sexually assaulted by seven correction officers at the facility. This is one in a long line of horror stories from Rikers; just two months ago, a female corrections officer was the victim of attempted rape by a male inmate while officers have routinely used excessive force to control prisoners. 2) Google Issues Non-Apology For Racial Slur Results

Google has managed to disappoint us once again. The Internet giant issued a statement in reference to the “nigga house” gaffe saying “we apologize for any offense”  and that their teams are currently troubleshooting the issue. Meanwhile, as of 10 AM EST this morning, the listing for Howard University came up if you searched “nigga university” in Google Maps. I can’t. Read the mess over at Clutch Magazine.

3) #Winning: Senate Just Passed Obama’s Landmark Pacific Trade Deal

Obama just achieved one of his major goals for his second term. This morning, the Senate just voted in favor of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement to boost economic opportunities for the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Australia and various other countries in Southeast Asia and South America. 4) Haters Come For Columbia Anti-Rape Activist, Accuse Her Of Hoax

It seems like every time you try to do some good in the world, there will be someone there to tear you right back down. After anti-rape activist and endurance artist Emma Sulkowicz walked across the stage at Columbia’s Graduation ceremony on Tuesday with her signature mattress, someone anonymously put up posters in Manhattan’s Upper West Side accusing her—and Writer Lena Dunham—of lying about experiencing sexual assault. Passerbys promptly ripped down posters once they were discovered. Read the story at Time.

5) More Minimum Wage Protests Today Outside of Mickey D’s Headquarters

The fight continues. In time for McDonald’s annual shareholders’ meeting today at their Illinois headquarters, protestors are gathering outside to advocate for raising employees’ minimum wages. Let’s see how McDonald’s new CEO Steve Easterbrook performs under pressure. Read the story at USA Today.
