Brittney Griner, star WNBA player for the Mercury Phoenix, got hitched this Mother’s Day weekend! Multiple reports have confirmed Griner’s Friday nuptials to Glory Johnson, who also plays for the WNBA. She’s a forward for the Tulsa Shock.
Griner proposed to Johnson in August 2014. The wedding took place at the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliff Resort in North Phoenix, Arizona. 75 guests attended!
Details are still coming. But what we do know is that loved ones saw the newlyweds say their vows by a “cascading waterfall” (beautiful words via PEOPLE). And at the reception, the wedding cake was tiered and combined dessert favorites of Griner and Johnson (white/vanilla cake and red velvet respectively). The two also had their first dance to the new wedding anthem of Ed Sheeran‘s “Thinking Out Loud.”
Here’s what they wore for their tux and gown!
Johnson’s dress was featured on hit TV show, Say Yes to the Dress.
They look great!
This certainly is a positive turn for Griner and Johnson’s relationship. Just weeks ago, they were both arrested for allegedly assaulting each other in a domestic dispute. They must’ve let bygones by bygones. Together, they publicly took responsibility for their actions. And Griner took it further by declaring her stance as a positive role model. She said back in April:
“It is never OK for an argument to turn physical. This will never happen again, and I take my relationship and my responsibility as a role model seriously.”
The wedding was kept on schedule.
From what we’re hearing it sounded pretty lovely.
