Tuesday, April 28 was the first night of Baltimore’s citywide curfew and it is now over. Police arrested 10 people shortly after the 10 p.m. curfew began. More than a thousand police officers from throughout Maryland and two-thousand National Guard troops have been on the streets to enforce the curfew. Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake ordered a weeklong curfew to prevent a repeat of Monday night’s violence.

The Baltimore riots seem to stem from the death of 25 year old Freddie Gray while in police custody one week ago. Six officers have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. The investigation should be complete by this Friday but may not be announced until Monday of next week.

How do we prevent Baltimore and Ferguson riots in Richmond, Virginia? The answer is a series of Peeps and Police Community Conversations which started in February of 2015. The Chief of Police Alfred Durham attends and speaks, along with, officers, detectives, representatives from Internal Affairs, citizens, organizations, schools, and children.

The next #PeepsandPolice Community Conversation is Thursday, April 30, 2015, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m at the Southside Community Social Services Build located 4100 Hull Street, Richmond, VA. Lite refreshments will be served. Moderator is Clovia Lawrence of Radio One Richmond.
