A 30-year-old black man and a 60-year-old white man primarily helm the country’s top-selling album for the week of April 5, 2015. One raps, while the other is a stand up comic and actor. They’re not exactly the perfect match at first glance, and as it turns out, a third party is responsible for the oddly successful pairing of Wale and Jerry Seinfeld.

“My wife was a fan and she plays his music in the house all the time,” Seinfeld told The New York Times about his initial exposure to Wale. “I liked it, too — I don’t spend much time putting together playlists, but that’s what’s nice about being in a family is people just inflict it on you. I absorb it that way.”

Seinfeld says Wale asked to come backstage after a show just to say hello. After hearing about 2008’s Seinfeld-inspired The Mixtape About Nothing, Seinfeld was on board for The Album About Nothing. Despite being the show’s co-creator, Seinfeld is the second member to collaborate with Wale. Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who played Elaine Benes on “Seinfeld,” beat him to the punch by appearing on The Mixtape About Nothing.

The full article, which also briefly touches on Seinfeld’s meeting Sean “Puffy” Combs and Kanye West is available at The New York Times website.
