Just when you thought you’d heard it all. Lupita Nyong’o’s stunning Calvin Klein pearl dress, which was stolen earlier this week has been returned by the thieves! Before you think those bandits had a change of heart or a guilty conscience over the entire thing you may want to sit down and grab a glass for this interesting tea. The dress, which was said to have been crafted with 6,000 Akoya pearls and valued at $150,000, was snatched from Nyongo’s hotel room in West Hollywood.
TMZ is reporting that a person claiming to be responsible for stealing Lupita’s dress contacted them to let them know they brought the dress back to the hotel because it wasn’t worth squat. The guy claimed he saw Lupita’s room door slightly open and he and he snagged the dress. Apparently, when he took two pearls from the dress to the downtown garment district in Los Angeles for appraisal, they were told the pearls weren’t real and decided to take the dress back! The culprit contacted the entertainment site to notify them because they wanted people to know, “Hollywood’s fake bulls**t.” Um ok, guy…
Meanwhile Calvin Klein’s reps are claiming they never said to police whether or not the pearls were real or knockoffs. They allege Lupita’s stylist is the one going around saying the pearls were worth $150,000. Sources close to Women’s Creative Director of Calvin Klein, Francisco Costa told the site,
Did anyone ever say they were real from Calvin Klein? I always assumed everyone knew they were fake, but I guess not.
Le sigh. Everyone involved in this story sounds ridiculous.
