Delegate Joseph D. Morrissey (D-Henrico 74) has officially announced his resignation for the 74th district in the Virginia General Assembly only to run for the same seat. Morrissey’s term ends on January 13 the same day of the special election. Morrissey decided to run as an independent because the Democratic Party of Virginia decided to nominate a candidate for the 74th district during a firehouse primary. The fire house primary announcement came four days after Morrissey announced his resignation on December 18.

Morrissey called the fire house primary unfair to approximately 80,000 voters in the 74th district. In fact, he called the 100 democratic committee members votes a poll tax. Morrissey said the members had to be in good standing with the party to vote December 22.

Delegate Morrissey wants voters of the 74th district to vote on Tuesday, January 13, 2015. Listen to my interview here…
