Another HBCU is facing a hazing lawsuit after a student claims he was beaten obsessively while pledging Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. The Bowie State student, Kevin Hayes, was pledging between September and November 2013 when he endured six to eight hours of grueling punishment.

“I don’t want this to happen to anybody else,” he said. The hazing was mental and physical. ” I would come back to my room and just lay on my bed and cry.”

Hayes says he was “punched, hit and slapped.

“I was tired. I was hungry and through all this I couldn’t tell a single soul what was going on. If I did so, I would be considered a snitch.” 18 months after his initial involvement with the organization, Hayes claims that he is still facing harassment from members of the organization.

When Hayes and his mother approached Bowie State University and Alpha Phi Alpha, they ignored Hayes’ claims. The continued harassment prompted Hayes to contact a lawyer. He is now suing the organization and the University for $3 Million.

Bowie State released the following statement:

“Bowie State University has a stringent anti-hazing policy that is coupled with a strong anti-hazing education program. The university considers hazing to be indefensible and contrary to the interest of the university community.

What do you guys think? Should he have just dropped line or is a lawsuit necessary giving the anti-hazing policies amongst Black Greek letter organizations?
