Radio One listeners, socia media followers, elected officials and community get ready for the Annual Send-A-Kid To Camp radio-thon on Thursday, May 1, 2014. The radio-thon starts at 10 a.m. at the Radio One Richmond studios located 2809 Emerywood Parkway, Suite 300, Richmond, VA 23294. Brought to you by Clovia “Miss Community” Lawrence, Richmond Parks, Recreation and Community Facilies, EnRichmond Foundation, Camp Diva and Radio One Richmond.

All donations are tax deductable and will help pay for city children to have an exciting and educational summer camp experience. Volunteers will accept your calls on May 1 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Don’t forget to call the ‘campline’ at 804-521-8400.

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities’ summer camp program offers nine weeks of structured activities for children ages 6 – 11, Monday – Friday from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm starting June 23 and continuing through August 22. This year’s theme is “Fantasy Island”

Children enrolled in the camp are immersed in fun activities each day that include art and cultural enrichment, health and physical education, science and environmental education, and personal and social development as well as field trips. The camp is offered at 13 department community centers throughout the city and costs $250 per child for city residents and an additional cost for non-city residents.

 The annual Send-A-Kid to camp radiothon is in partnership with Richmond Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities, Camp Diva and the Alexander Lance Booker Child Safety Foundation.
