Jennifer Hudson went Hollywood glam for the latest edition of Net-A-Porter’s The Edit. The Oscar and Grammy award winner, who stars as a single mother in the new holiday film Black Nativity, posed in beautiful designer dresses for photographer Franceso Carrozzini and dished on her life as a down-to-earth A-lister.

Along with showing off her natural beauty, J-Hud shared a little know fact with the magazine: when she accepted the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in February 2007, she “didnāt know what the Oscars was.ā

āWhere we come from, we donāt know anything about that world,” she revealed. “If you see it on TV, itās like, āOh, people in fancy suits and ties.’”

“It is so bizarre to me to say, āOK, let me go email Alicia [Keys], let me go email Beyonce, let me go talk to Oprahā¦ā For so long I sat and admire them; now Iām among them.
On life after “American Idol”:
What I feel about people you never heard from again is that they get too caught up in the hype. They think that just getting here is making it. No, itās not making it. Itās like a losing-weight situation: itās one thing to lose it, itās another to keep it off. Well, itās one thing to make it, but itās another thing to stay. [That is] why you have to constantly do stuff to keep peopleās attention. Itās a hustle, it really is.ā
On her new movie Black Nativity:
āI turned down I donāt know how many [musicals]. What drew me to this is that itās a holiday film: Iām a holiday fanatic. Itās uplifting ā we donāt have enough of that in the world.ā
On her memory of Whitney Houston:
āAs a girl Iād sit in my mommaās house and sing I Will Always Love You. Thatās why [singing in tribute] was so overwhelming. Iām just grateful I got to meet Whitney. She came backstage and was like, āI turn my torch over to you; you are The Oneā. I was like, āOh my God! Did anybody else hear that?ā Had she not given me her blessing, I would never have stepped on that stage.ā
