The Obama campaign in Virginia will officially launch African Americans for Obama on Tuesday, April 24, 2012.

Obama for Virginia events will include an African American women’s roundtable in Alexandria, beauty salon and barber shop outreach in Richmond and a Danville community meeting.  Hampton Roads area supporters will hold a policy roundtable in Hampton, followed by an event that evening in Norfolk with members of the community, as wellas, students and fraternities and sororities.

Nationally, the Obama campaign as unveiled a website www.barackobama.com/African-americans with resources and information on the president’s accomplishments for African Amercian families. The campaign has held HBCU Summits on campuses across the country in February. Volunteers in Virginia have been engaging African American supporters though grassroots phonebanks, house parties and voter registration drives since the launch of the campaign last April.

Mike Blake is Obama campaign’s Deputy Director of Operation Vote. Blake left the White House to work on President Obama’s re-election campaign.

During my interview with Mike Blake, I asked about the status of Obama’s grassroots campaign in Virginia and he said “we’re moving and continuing to get people excited”. He wants to remind everyone throughout Virginia, that “our #1 job is putting Americans back to work and that’s why we’re asking for them to support the president and re-elect him.”
