During last week’s tribute to the Queen of Soul at the 53rd Grammy Awards, many may have been wondering why Fantasia Barrino wasn’t in attendance.
Fantasia announced on BET’s 106 and park that she decided not to attend the Grammy Awards show because she wasn’t asked to participate in the tribute to Aretha Franklin.
According to New York Daily News Barrino said, “They were honoring someone who is my idol, Aretha Franklin, and there is no way I could have sat there and not got the happy feet and wanting to jump on the mic because she is my favorite, so I felt like, you know, at the end of the day, I should have been on that stage.”
When Aretha received word of Fantasia’s dis- R-E-S-P-E-C-T she had to comment telling USA Today, “Fantasia is still young in the business and although we all love and appreciate her she must understand that in this business of show business she will not always get to participate in everything she would like to participate in.”
Aretha did mention how she was however sorry to hear that Fantasia was upset and that she will be seeing her over the summer in her hometown Detroit.
