With colleges like the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech dominating much of the Commonwealth’s college sports focus, its easy to forget about some of the other NCAA schools.  But believe it or not, when it comes to the NBA Draft, VCU has accomplished something that no other school in the state has.

Former Rams center Larry Sanders was selected 15th overall last week during the Milwaukee Bucks, making VCU the first men’s college basketball team from Virginia to have players selected during the first round in back-to-back years.  Last year, former VCUpoint guard Eric Maynor was selected 20th overall.

With Sanders selection, the Rams also  join a group of four programs from outside the six major conferences to have first-rounders in back-to-back seasons. The others are Memphis, Utah and UNLV.
