Motorists in Illinois were shocked Sunday after witnesses say they watched a man shoot and kill his girlfriend in the middle of a busy highway before turning the gun on himself.
25-year-old Ashley Oliver was killed Sunday by Tommie Hill, also 25, in front of his 7-year-old daughter who sat helplessly in the car as the ordeal took place.
Witnesses say Oliver was already bleeding from a gunshot wound before she leapt across several lanes of traffic and began banging on windows trying to escape her enraged boyfriend.
One man, Scott Cross of East St. Louis, Illinois told police that he and his family were trying to help the woman and started to roll the window down “until we saw that gun.”
Cross says Hill followed Oliver into traffic and pulled out a semiautomatic handgun, shooting her one last time before turning the gun around and shooting himself in the head.
Police say Hill died on the pavement while the woman later died at a hospital.
An autopsy confirmed that Oliver was hit three times; in the shoulder, the right side of her neck and in the head.
Hill’s 7-year-old daughter is in the custody of her mother.
She was unharmed.
