Are all words that come to mind when you think of the legacy built by the late Maggie L. Walker. The community of Richmond come together to celebrate Mrs. Walker’s 154 birthday.
High-spirited entertainment poured out of downtown’s historic Jackson Ward district during a full day (July 14) of community-centered activities, performances, speakers, and more.
Mayor Levar Stoney kicked off the festivities with an empowering speech, “Let’s continue to erect monuments that inspire our young people and tell the full and correct story about the city of Richmond.”
The celebration took place at the national historic site and at the Maggie Walker statue. Attendees enjoyed open-house tours of the Maggie Walker home, children’s activities, refreshments, and live music including an inspiring performance by Girls With Voices.
