Lawmakers in Virginia’s General Assembly will return to the state capitol next month to work on the two-year spending plan for Medicaid expansion. Lawmakers could not agree on a plan earlier this month.

Governor Ralph Northam is pushing for Medicaid expansion in the state’s budget. Northam during his budget announcement on Wednesday says his budget differs from former Governor McAuliffe’s in that his call for Medicaid expansion does not include work requirements. The Republican controlled Senate opposes expansion, while the Republican dominated House supports it with a work requirement.
