TheHollywoodReporter’s annual Oscar roundtable interviews are industry indicators of which actors and actresses will be nominated for Academy Awards this award season. And this year, Taraji P. Henson and Naomie Harris’ names are among the buzz.
Taraji, who stars in the forthcoming ‘Hidden Figures’ and Naomie Harris in ‘Moonlight,’ join fellow thespians Emma Stone, Amy Adams, Natalie Portman, Annette Bening and Isabelle Huppert on the cover of THR “Actress Roundtable” issue.
In her roundtable interview, Taraji opens up about the pressure of playing a character, who is still alive. “It’s very scary,” she said. “Because you want to get it right.”
Taraji stars alongside Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monáe in the story of three Black beauties were the brains behind one of NASA’s greatest operations in history: astronaut John Glenn‘s launch into orbit.
Bond girl Naomie Harris stars in the breakout film, ‘Moonlight,’ the story of two Black men who fall in love in the midst of poverty. Harris plays Chiron’s (Trevante Rhodes) mother, who was consumed by drug addition in her latter years.
Naomie revealed during the roundtable that she had just three days to film the intense scenes.
“It’s so weird, actually, because I never felt like it was three days. I never felt rushed. It’s only now that everybody is saying, “Oh my gosh, it was done in three days. That’s insane.” And I’m like, “Yeah, it is insane!”
Naomie pulled from Youtube clips of interviews with crackheads in order to make her performance believable.
“Obviously, I don’t know anything about Miami in the 1980s, but I felt through these clips that I got real insight into those communities and those people’s lives.
We are rooting for both of these leading ladies!
