Its no surprise that designers of mixed heritage are taking over the once very tight world of haute couture fashion. From Oliver Roustieng at Balmain to Haitian-Italian designer Stella Jean, the lines that used to segment fashion into sub culture groups is slowly dissipating. The couture culture of fashion has become a global fusion from runway trends to the actual designers themselves.

Interestingly enough I’ve seen quite a bit of inspiration drawing from both Haiti and Cuba, two islands in western civilization that has maintained an interesting balance of African culture and Western influence. The West Indies isn’t the only recent zing to fashion influence even lesser known region Uzbekistan has made a printed splash in Mara Hoffman Fall’s collection The country’s rich history as once part Persia and now budding mix of various ethnic lifestyles re-asserts this limit less passport access in fashion trends.

Traveling to Cuba, Haiti and Uzbekistan may have its complications, but that doesn’t mean our wardrobe can’t have global access. Designers Stella Jean, Mara Hoffman and Clover Canyon have enough pieces to give your style bold Kreyol statements, tropical flavor and cultural appeal from now until Valentines Day 2014.
