Dipset’s Jim Jones has reportedly been released from Columbia Records after only releasing one solo album, Pray For Reign, and will drop his next effort on E1 Music.
While Jones has yet to comment, reports suggest the move has been finalized.
XXLMag.com has learned that Dipset Capo Jim Jones has left Columbia Records and recently signed a deal to release his next solo studio album on E1 Music, formerly known as Koch Records. According to the contract, the Harlem rapper will also drop a mixtape vie E1 as well. Jones has a long history with the E1. Along with releasing a handful of records on the imprint, last January he was appointed vice president of urban A&R. (XXL Mag)
Jones previously denied reports of being dropped from Columbia last summer.
“not true at all totaly false. lol lmao owww,” he wrote in response to questions about a Max B mixtape. He went on to address other rumors. “I wish [I was dropped from Columbia]. funny thing about tht is I’m not a artist over there I’m a partner I have a venture I wish it was that easy lol.” (Jim Jones’ Twitter)
Reports spread online last June which said Jones was dropped from Columbia.
Our A&R source at Columbia Records tells TheYBF.com that rapper Jim Jones has just been dropped from the label. We called the Columbia offices to get an official statement, but it was after hours. Columbia has, though, removed him from their website. (The YBF)
Helping to bring in new talent like DJ Webstar to the popular independent label, Jimmy previously described his work ethic away from the studio at E1 Music.
“The A&R gig is really good,” Jones said in an interview. “We’ve got a lot going on over there. I’ve got a new artist called Dorrough. His songs are doing pretty good across the country. Webstar did a duet album with me that’s got ‘Dancing On Me.’ D-Block just dropped an album. Shout out to [DJ] Khaled too. They’ve got a strong roster. They recognize all the money I’ve made them and all of the moves I’ve made throughout the years over the course of our relationship. They understand the way I have to work. Freedom is definitely a must for me to get the best quality of product that’s usually a hit…I’m starting to prepare to record the next album. I’m finishing up the Webstar album, Roof Top right now.
