From CBS 6 – Virginia Commonwealth University is working to re-structure the contract of head men’s basketball coach Shaka Smart, according to a report in USA Today. Citing an unnamed source, USA Today reported the restructuring had less to do with giving Smart a raise, and more about improving the university’s basketball program by changing how coaches can recruit and the Rams travel. USA Today did not cite specific changes up for negotiation.
Last year Smart, 35, signed an eight-year contract with VCU that pays him more than $1.3 million a year, according to the Richmond Times Dispatch.
His name has been mentioned as a possible candidate for vacate head coaching jobs at UCLA, USC and the University of Minnesota. READ MORE
