There are more independent, strong and outspoken women in the world than ever before. Since women have developed this strong personality and are definitely more confident, we now see more women asking men out on dates and even asking their hand in marriage–like in the case of  Vh1′s “Love & Hip Hop” reality show star, Chrissy asking Jim Jones to marry her. It’s funny because gender roles have reversed and it seems like some women actually like to chase men more so than men liking to chase women.

When is it appropriate, if ever, for a woman to ask a man out on a date, and even in the most extreme case, for marriage? Have women over stepped their boundaries and taken on the male’s role in the relationship? Does asking a man out make a woman look desperate?

Men are hunters by nature, and even if they don’t like to admit it, they like the chase of a woman that is not easy to get. A woman that is readily available at a man’s every expense (at least in the very beginning of a relationship) gets boring after a while since it was not a challenge to get her, and won’t be a challenge to keep her. Most of the time, men will date a woman just because she is easy and they didn’t have to put much work into it to get her to date them. Most of the time, a relationship that is long lasting began with the man chasing the woman and pulling out all his best tricks to get her, and the stepping his game up at all costs to keep her.

A blog post on datingadvicesecrets.com gives a few instances where it may be okay for a woman to ask a man on a date.

1. If the man is shy, then sometimes it may be okay for the woman to ask the man out and get things rolling. Sometimes shy and soft spoken men can make great boyfriends, they just need that little push from you.

2. If it seems like he’s already asked in his own way. Sometimes guys give off little signs that their interested for example opening all doors for you and pulling out all chairs for you to sit and touching you on your shoulder or the small of your back. To him, he’s already made a pass at you, and is waiting for you to take the next step.

3. He’s always busy but somehow always finds the time for you. If he seems like the guy who is always on the go 24/7 but always responds to your emails/bbms/tweets/text/smoke signals (you get the point), then he’s definitely interested.

I don’t think its anything wrong with asking a guy that you’re interested in out for drinks or coffee or just to hang out after work. However, when it gets to the point where the woman is the one asking all the time and the man is just sitting around waiting to be chased, that’s when it’s time to let it go and move on to a man that’ll actually chase you, and pull out his best tricks to get and keep you.
