A family who found out that their son’s brain was on display in a New York City Mortuary when his sister visited on a field trip was awarded $1 million by a jury.

The family had filed the suit against New York City and its Medical Examiner’s (ME) office charging their mishandling of their son’s remains and interference with their “proper disposition” had caused them severe emotional distress.

Jesse Jerome Shipley was 17 years old when he died in a car crash.  The parents had no idea that their sons brain was being put out for the public to see after his death.
