Ja Rule (born Jeffrey Atkins) has been sentenced to an additional 28 months in jail for failing to file income tax returns on more than $3 million that he earned between 2004 and 2006. Ja Rule is already behind bars serving a two-year sentence on a gun charge in New York. Luckily for him, the two terms will run concurrently, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Jersey.

Minutes before his sentencing Ja Rule said, “I in no way attempted to deceive the government or do anything illegal. I was a young man who made a lot of money – I’m getting a little choked up – I didn’t know how to deal with these finances, and I didn’t have people to guide me, so I made mistakes.” [source]

In addition to his 2 year sentence, he has been ordered to pay $1.1 million in unpaid taxes.
