It may be impossible to fathom, but Reggie Bush may get axed by the New Orleans Saints. The Saints, facing tough financial challenges, just released Jeremy Shockey, one of the top receivers in the league. Due to his massive salary this year, some wonder if Bush might be next on the chopping block.
Bush is scheduled to receive $11.8 million in base salary next season, and count $16 million against the team’s salary cap. Pending labor strife in the NFL this year will make it nearly impossible for Bush to earn that kind of money after the negotiations are over.
Bush will likely be asked to renegotiate his current contract into a multi-year deal to spread the salary cap hit over several years instead of just one. Another option might be to send Bush packing altogether.
