Richmond City Councilman, Marty Jewell’s, nephew, Jimar Jewell entered into an agreement with the Commonwealth today and plead guilty to malicious wounding and possession of a firearm while committing a felony.

However, one of the charges was dropped. In late August, Jewell fired three shots at a Virginia Union University student, injuring him in the leg, femur and ankle.

Since the victim isn’t permanently injured, the malicious wounding charge was withdrawn.

Jewell has been incarcerated since he was apprehended by police after shortly after the shooting because he is considered a flight risk.

He will be sentenced on June 11th. Jewell could face up to 23 years in prison, but, prosecutors are asking that he only serve at least 10.
