Swizz Beatz Talks Business, Eve, DMX, And Alicia Keys

Swizz Beatz stopped by Power 105.1′s “The Breakfast Club” morning show to talk about his numerous career ventures, how he knew there was more to life and business than just music, and yes, his wife, Alicia Keys.

Swizz also touched on his disdain of 360 deals and how such a move is only advisable to “new artists” with “nothing to lose,” but with a timetable.

On the Megaupload controversy, “It was a bunch of miscommunication.” He also added that “He wasn’t doing nothing wrong, but the miscommunication part makes it look like everyone is doing something wrong when that isn’t the case.” He added that, “He is the last person who wants to give music away for free. Are you crazy?”

As for New York’s problem to remerge as the dominate region of hip-hop, “We don’t have unity. We’re always trying to be king and have that one spot when there are a lot of spots to be had.”

When it comes to DMX, Eve and their musical comebacks, “All it takes is one hit,” Swizz asserts. He also noted that when it comes to regaining musical relevance, “Eve is hungry.”

Asked about President Obama shouting out Young Jeezy at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner, he said, “He caught me off guard.” Asked to elaborate, Swizz explained, ”I was shocked. I thought he was gonna do the Jay or the Kanye right.” He then advised Jeezy to capitalize off it.

Now about his wife, “Her album is crazy. I think she coming in September. I think she’s coming with a single pretty soon.”

After flying from Miami to Charlotte last night (January 26th) and throwing up repeatedly during the flight, DMX was rushed to the hospital. TMZ reports that he had some “bad shrimp.”

According to TMZ, a Ruff Ryders reunion is in the works. DMX himself has said “We are all family and we’re going to come back stronger than when we left … It’s going to take the nation by storm.” Swizz Beatz, Eve, Drag On, & Murda-Mook have all signed on to do the reunion. Eve told TMZ to “expect a massive comeback.” The only ingredient missing is the LOX, they have yet to sign on; But X is very sure that will change once he speaks to them. Fans have been looking forward to the return of the crew, look no more because “X Gon Give It To Ya.”

A “fan” jumped on stage and attacked DMX while he was performing in concert in Long Beach last night, and thanks to TMZ, you can see the video.

DMX Sets Spring Release For New Album

DMX ended 2011 on a great note and plans on having another good year in 2012! The Yonkers emcee will be releasing his seventh studio album, Undisputed on March 27.

“Expect the unexpected. Expect the new improved…Expect hip-hop. Expect real music. Expect the Dog to be back,” said Swizz Beatz of the forthcoming project. X enlists the help of Busta Rhymes, Tyrese, and Jennifer Hudson.

The highly anticipated production will be released via United Music & Media Group.

XXL Magazine Names Top 10 Hip-Hop Books

Since it’s inception, hip-hop has infiltrated more than neighborhood boomboxes. As of late, hip-hop has turned it’s eye towards dominating the literary world. Decoded written by Jay-Z and dream hampton hit the New York Times’ Best Sellers List in the fourth quarter of last year and remained there for quite some time. Following the trend, rappers have started putting out their own literary works. XXL Magazine took notice and created a list of the Top 10 Hip-Hop Books.

The Urban Daily is especially proud because our Chief Content Officer Smokey D. Fontaine co-authored an entry. He and DMX collaborated on E.A.R.L.: The Autobiography of DMX. Here’s what XXL had to say about our friend and boss:

It was DMX’s passion and revealing honesty that helped the Ruff Ryder thrive as an artist in the late 1990s and early 2000s, and those same factors ensured that his book, E.A.R.L.: The Autobiography of DMX (Harper Collins), was as gripping as the emotional prayers heard on his albums. The autobiography focuses more on the man than on his music, with the Dark Man opening up about violence, imprisonment, familial neglect and building his family during his formative years. The unpredictability that has marked much of the Yonkers rapper’s career was, unsurprisingly, also present during the writing process. What ensued for co-author Smokey D. Fontaine was months on the road, hundreds of hours of tape and full immersion in DMX’s everyday life. “I carried a micro-cassette [recorder] in my pocket everywhere we went. Had my hand in my pocket. We’d be in conversation, whenever we started getting into it, I’d press record,” Fontaine says. “We never had one scheduled time to sit down and talk about his life. It was all fly-on-the-wall. It was all completely organic.” Like X.

Earl “DMX” Simmons is continuing his post-prison goodwill tour, this time playing wheelchair basketball with injured soldiers. According to TMZ, X was doing a show in San Antonio last Thursday, when a fan asked if he would visit the troops at nearby Fort Sam Houston. X said yes and showed up the next day to play a little wheelchair basketball with some of the guys.

“It made my day as much as it did their day,” DMX told TMZ. “One told me that I gave him the best early Christmas gift he ever got and that has me still smiling.”

DMX is really trying to clean up his act–literally. Just days after helping a restaurant employee mop the floors, the oft-imprisoned rapper was filmed vacuuming a nightclub.

“Broom, vacuum, mop, whatever … it’s a rewarding experience,” he told TMZ. “What can I say? I like clean sh*t and the supplies were available.”

DMX relieved a Waffle House employee of mopping duties after he felt touched that the laborer was such a fan. “I was in a good mood and felt that I would do that for him since it was 4am and [the employee] had been working all night” he says. X stopped at the restaurant after attending a Halloween party at a strip club in the area.

DMX was recently released from an Arizona prison after serving six months for a probation violation.

Has DMX Given Up His Cocaine Habit?

Cocaine is one hell of a drug, and it looks like DMX may be over it. After getting locked up on several occasions for offenses that stem back to his cocaine habit, he said he’s done with the white stuff.

“Everyone was taking advantage of me with my finances, trying to put me in the direction to fail,” DMX told TMZ. “I have 10 kids. I have to drive them in the right direction, so I let the cocaine go.”
